Worcestershire law firm mfg Solicitors has announced the completion of a deal to acquire Shropshire legal practice Phillips & Co.
Based in Ludlow, Phillips & Co was established in 1954 with the two-partner firm now headed by father and son team George and Peter Stephens.
Specialising in property, conveyancing, wills and probate, Phillips & Co employs a team of six across its offices in the town’s Corve Street and a satellite office in Craven Arms.
The deal means that mfg Solicitors, which has 31 partners and nearly 120 staff, can now count eight offices across the West Midlands.
“George, Peter and the rest of the team have built a strong reputation over many successful years. To have them as part of the mfg family is exciting for us and it’s a deal that will allow Phillips & Co to offer a greater range of expertise and advice to their clients.” said Suzanne Lee, managing partner at mfg Solicitors.
“Their excellent track-record is well known and as a firm Phillips & Co fits perfectly into mfg Solicitors as we continue with our expansion plans.
“From an mfg perspective, the acquisition also allows us to take a stronger foothold in the south of Shropshire and on the Welsh border. These are areas where we are building a growing commercial, private client and agricultural client base and where we are keen to expand further.”
Peter Stephens, partner at Phillips & Co, commented: “We have worked with some of the partners from mfg over several years and have always been aware of their credentials in a number of legal specialisms.
“To be part of such a forward-thinking firm, and to have their broader expertise and commitment behind us, really is the start of a proud new chapter in our firm’s history.
“We will continue to focus on providing specialist legal services to new and existing clients in and around Shropshire. But the merger will allow us to assist clients in a far greater spread of practice areas than ever before – specialisms including commercial, employment, litigation, family, tax and agricultural matters.”
Mfg Solicitors has eight offices across the West Midlands. Their head office is at Adam House, Kidderminster with other offices in Worcester, Bromsgrove, Telford.
The firm is also expected to complete a deal to acquire Bromsgrove legal firm Scotts Holt & Sellars on 24 August.
