Compensation for discrimination can include both financial and non-financial loss, and in terms of non-financial loss, this will normally include an award for injury to feelings.
What are Vento bands?
The Vento bands provide guidance to employment tribunals when awarding compensation for injury to feelings, and these are updated on an annual basis in line with inflation.
The Update:
The 2024 update has just been published and applies to claims presented on or after 6 April 2024, as follows:
- a lower band of £1,200 to £11,700 for less serious cases e.g. for a one off act of discrimination;
- a middle band of £11,700 to £35,200 for cases that do not merit an award in the upper band;
- an upper band of £35,200 to £58,700 for the most serious cases, e.g. for a persistent campaign of harassment; and
- amounts in excess of £58,700 for the most exceptional cases.
